Grade 51CrV4
Alloy steel for quenching and tempering according to DIN EN 10083/DIN EN ISO 683 in soft annealed version (+A).
Used in general machine and vehicle construction, e.g. for springs, spindles, pinions and shafts. Subsequent tempering or hardening of the components can achieve high strength and hardness as well as high wear resistance. The soft annealed condition (+A) ensures shearability and machinability and there is a homogeneous microstructure with similar properties throughout the production batch. Due to its alloy composition with a high carbon content, 51CrV4 is generally difficult to weld.
